Veterans Activities

May 2026 – Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge began its Memorial Day events by participating in the Disabled American Veterans’ Unit 33 program, Welcoming America 250 – Joining As One For Our Veterans. The Event took place at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo. The Lodge provided service flags for display and, with the assistance of Boy Scout Troop 548, helped with the opening ceremony. At the conclusion of the patriotic program, the Boy Scouts served lunch to all attendees. The food and fellowship were enjoyed by approximately 200. That same day, Lodge members took 33 Veterans from the Colonel Howard Home to the Baron’s baseball game.

Veterans Day 2025 – Members of Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge #1738 organized and participated in a series of meaningful activities to honor veterans. The Lodge coordinated the placement of United States flags at the grave markers of veterans in both the Pelham City Cemetery and the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. This tribute was made possible through the collective efforts of Lodge members, Boy Scout Troop #548, and JROTC cadets who are supported by the Lodge. After Veterans Day, these dedicated volunteers returned to the cemeteries to respectfully remove and store the flags.

In addition to the flag placement, the Lodge hosted a special dinner to recognize and celebrate its Veteran members. The event was further enhanced by the involvement of volunteers from the Shelby County Youth Leadership Development Program, who decorated the venue, served the meal, and managed cleanup duties, ensuring a memorable and well-organized event for all participants.
