February 2025 – Oak Mt Intermediate School located in Shelby County Alabama, invited Cahaba Valley Elks to present 5th graders with their About Our Flag Program BPO Elks USA. Students were taught about the history of our Nation’s Flag, the proper way to give the Pledge of Allegiance, and demonstrated the correct way the Flag should be displayed. CVEL members distributed About Our Flag booklets and flag pins to take home and share with the family. The program was organized and presented by the Americanism Committee that is Chaired by PER Howard Prater. Funds for the presentation and handouts were provided by the BPO Elks USA Gratitude Grant. The 5th grade students also wrote essays for the Lodge’s annual Americanism Essay Contest. This year’s theme is “What does Patriotism Mean to Me?”. Oak Mt 5th graders complimented the Lodge’s program with a tour of American Village www.americanvillage.org located in Montevallo, Alabama.
